South Street is the line where all four neighborhoods meet. Queen Village and Bella Vista to the south, Society Hill and Washington Square West to the north.
Boundaries come from the City of Philadelphia’s Registered Community Organization data. The zoning code allows RCO territories to overlap, so a few edges sit on top of each other. Faint grey outlines are neighboring RCOs, shown for context.
Questions
Does it cost anything?
No. The event is free and so is the wristband. Checking in ahead of time just saves you a minute at the table.
Where do I get a wristband?
At the tables at either end of the closure, any time between 4 and 10 on either day.
What is actually closed?
South Street between 2nd and 4th, which is the 200 and 300 blocks. Cross streets stay open.
Do I really need to bring a chair?
You do not have to, but there is no seating provided. A folding chair or a blanket makes the evening a lot better, especially for the movie.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes. Leashed dogs are welcome, and volunteers will have water bowls out along the closure. Please bring bags and clean up after your dog.
What about parking?
The city will post signage along the closure at least 48 hours before the event. Cars parked on the closed blocks will need to move by then or they may be towed. Detour details are still being confirmed with the city.
What if it rains?
The event is rain or shine. Check back closer to the date for weather updates if conditions look severe.
Is it accessible?
With the street closed to cars, the whole roadbed is open to walk and roll through, and the sidewalks stay open as usual. Individual businesses have their own entrances, so step-free access varies shop to shop. If you have a specific access question, reach out to any of the four associations listed above.
I own a shop on South Street. Can I still join?
Yes, and we would love to have you. Any business along the corridor can offer a wristband deal. Pick whatever works for you, a discount, a freebie with purchase, a happy hour price, and we will add you to the list. Reach out at info@qvna.org to sign up.
